Reunion 2017

Happy New Year 2016

It has almost been a year since President Oakes passed away. He got his wish and passed quickly. Sister Oakes misses her "best friend". About 150 of us attended the funeral. If you were there, you will recall the powerful sight it was for all of us to stand and sing Hoje, ao Profeta Louvemos. Click on the Funeral link at the right to see the program.

What a legacy we share! I'm sure you are as grateful as I am to have served in the Crusty Brazil North Mission under President and Sister Oakes.

Update on President Oakes' Condition

Complications due to the spread of cancer to President Oakes’ lungs along with a reaction to chemotherapy have placed him at death’s door, as those of you on the mailing list know. Many of you have forwarded messages of love and encouragement, which are greatly appreciated. This morning I received a text from Grant Oakes that the President’s condition is somewhat improved, and they may take him home and have him placed on hospice. I’ll let you know how things progress.

Please keep the messages coming.

Sinceramente,

Chuck Allison

Health Update

Dear BNM Brothers and Sisters,

I had the pleasure of visiting with the Oakes last night (11/25/2014). Sister Oakes is doing very well. President Oakes, however, is not. He wanted me to share some information with you.

He has been diagnosed with a pleomorphic sarcoma in his right thigh. It is a very aggressive cancer and the growth in his thigh muscle is over 20cm, twice as large as is typical. He is experiencing quite a bit of pain and discomfort, but is also in good spirits, as you would expect. The plan is to undergo radiation therapy, and perhaps chemotherapy, followed by surgery when the tumor has shrunk to the point where it may be able to be removed. As you can imagine, removing a mass embedded in muscle would be a delicate procedure with possibly severe after-effects. His attitude is inspiring, and, as always, wants only to accept and do the Lord’s will. He expresses love to us all.

Please feel free to contact the Oakes to share your best wishes. I know you will include them in your prayers.

Faithfully,

Chuck Allison
